Catch Up

I love getting pictures from Charlie's teacher

Happy Hours with the bestie - still a total necessity

Lloyd is gone, we found Charlie again

Early morning trip back to the capital.  Getting very good at this drive

How my kid sleeps.  Every night, total disaster

Goober's team from last year made the ad in the Blue Springs Park and Rec magazine for All Stars Football.

Got chosen to give a lunch and learn.  It's basically a chance to get up in front of  bunch of chamber members and pitch for an hour.  I was terrified but it was actually fun and very well received!

Love being within walking distance of Charlie's school so Fletcher and I can walk to get him on nice days

Charlie Art for 9/11, tugged at my heart a bit

Tom Szaky from Terracyle was our keynote speaker.  This guy was AWESOME.  If you don't know what Terracycle is, look it up.  It's absolutely amazing what they are doing.

Catch Up

New baby chimp at the KC Zoo

Calvin and Hobbes

Swimming with our good friends Susan, Will & Ruthanne after church

Blessing of the backpacks - you can see sweet little Ruthanne and Will behind him

My new business card holder for my desk - could.you.die

Temperature dropped for a few days and I got SO excited for fall.  It was short-lived, back to hot and miserable.

The book I waited a YEAR for!  And it was totally worth it.

My office once a month for MORA legislative committee.

Always like to take advantage of being in our capital and wandering

There was a small art exhibit in one of the buildings, thought I had stumbled into a Thomas Hart Benton exhibit.  I'm not a huge art person, but Benton is my favorite and you can tell what a huge influence he had on this guy
This one lit up the whole room, it was incredible.  Pictures obviously don't do it justice.

Chamber of Commerce Ribbon Cutting

We had a ribbon cutting for our new location through the Chamber

It's pretty cheesy, but it was fun.  Good way to get everyone out to our shop and see how the process works.
I don't think it's a secret how much I'm enjoying my new job.  It's nothing glamorous, but I love being a part of something so important.  The government won't do anything to regulate it, at least not here in Kansas & Missouri.  We need to take responsibility ourselves for the disposal on our electronics.  Don't throw your electronics in the landfill people!!
And the best part?  I got to make this sign for the beer stash

Two Capitols in One Week - I LOVE MY JOB

We are doing a large event with the City of Topeka/County of Shawnee.  I've been down for several meetings.  We got out a bit early so I thought I'd run in and see where Brownback is hiding all the money.

It was so bizarre, you just pull up and park.  Like, right in front of it.  Gotta love Kansas.  They just had a $325 million renovation.  Yea, the schools have no money, but the STATE HOUSE is amazing.  I have to say...it is pretty amazing.

I just wandered.  Snuck in with a tour group for a bit, but left after a while.  This place is unbelievable.

Look how much work is getting done!  (yes, I'm kidding, I know how senate calendars work)

My favorite part is all the historical details they kept.  I can't even begin to explain how much cool, original stuff is in this building

The flipping awesome sign on the hotel across from the state house.  My personal favorite Jayhawk from 1918.  Rock Chalk!

THEN, later that week, I had a legislative meeting for MORA at this winery in Jefferson City.  You know, just sitting around and talking legislative agendas, drinking wine and taking in the gorgeous scenery.  No biggie

Well, I just had to go and check out the capital

I have to say, Kansas' was prettier, but they have a renovation in their corner.  But Topeka is the armpit of Kansas.  You've never seen such an unattractive city.  It looks like the whole thing was built in 1963 and is all beige on beige on beige.  Jefferson City is absolutely gorgeous.  Gorgeous parks, crazy old historic buildings and mansions and the cutest downtown ever.

Other funny thing, it was like getting into Fort Knox in Kansas.  Guards, metal detectors, the works.  Missouri?  You just walk right in

Former Missouri Governors.  aka HALL O' WHITE DUDES

Again, I was able to just wander.

The Missouri River from the window of the library

Kansas basement on the left, Missouri halls on the right.  Camera one, camera two, camera one, camera two.
