Matt's been working long, long hours. He can go a whole week without seeing Charlie. It's tough on everyone, but he works extremely hard for our family. If I know he's coming home, I'll try to keep Charlie up for just a bit so he can see his dad. He's usually very tired, but his face just lights up when he sees his dad

15 Months
We had Charlie's 15 month check-up. Here are the stats:
Weight 26.2 lbs 75th percentile
Height 31" 50th percentile
We are asserting our independence and do not like to do anything that isn't on our chosen agenda. He throws himself to the ground and let's out the most pathetic cry, and then he's over it in about 30 seconds.
We are still on one word - Hi, but he babbles so much I'm not worried one bit. I think he doesn't have time to talk, he's too busy climbing on things. The kid never stops moving. He tends to get shy around people. It takes him a bit to warm up. I wouldn't call him a social butterfly.
Every time he gets a little older I say no, this is the most fun age, but this really is a fun age. Everything is hilarious and he's vary easily entertained.

Blog Roll
You may have noticed my incredibly long blog roll on the right side of the blog. Do you wonder, how in the world does she keep up with all those blogs? Believe it or not, I do keep up with them all. Truth be told, most are small time bloggers that post every couple of days and are really heavy on the photographs. I find a lot of blogs through Better After. If I like your re-do, I go check out your blog. Some of my favorite blogs have been found that way.
Secret? I usually know in the first 10 seconds if I'm going to like the blog.
Things I don't like:
I immediately judge a blog by what font they use (is that terrible?)
#1 pet peeve is people who fish for followers. If you have a good product, the advertisers will come if that is what you are looking for. If you blog for non-monetary purposes, I like you even more!
Things I like:
I like lots and lots and lots of pictures. Who cares about your dog with a bandanna on? I do.
I like pictures of your children and your husband and friends.
I like personal stories. I want to hear the truth. The more personal, the more I like the blog.
Blogs like:
Love is Waiting - a blog about a couple trying to adopt. I'm on pins and needles waiting for Arthur to come stateside!
Mom and her drill - a hilarious blog about a single mom with a louse for an ex-husband
Shoe obsessed one - despite the name, I have become a religious follower of this blog. I don't even know this woman....but I feel like I do and I wanted to fly to Rhode Island and go to the beach!
Janette Drost - Her faith inspires me. And she's adorable
Broken Saucer - My favorite little blog friend Sera. I found her back when I was planning my wedding. She was planning a wedding too and she is the only blog I still follow from that era in my life. I just like her. She posts, well, basically never. But I wait. Patiently.
I always say, if I read your blog and I feel like I could have a cup of coffee with you, I continue to read.
There are a lot of blogs I try out for a while- they usually get the boot down the road. I try to give them a chance, then one day I'm just done.
Then there are my lesser favorite blogs like A Year of Slow cooking (her layout and graphics need some serious updating) and That's my letter and Magical Childhood - most of them either have font or layout or repetitiveness issues, but they have such handy stuff on there I reference them often. But they've made good, helpful blogs so good for them
Then there are the biggies:
Ohdeedoh Great kids blog
The Kitchn My favorite foodie blog done by the same people who do Ohdeedoh
Cup of Jo Seriously, is there anyone who doesn't follow Joanna? I can't figure out her formula for being so popular. She just posts pretty, non-controversial things and you just fall in love with her (and that Toby!)
Weelicious GREAT kid recipes. Tip: Don't watch the videos- she is literally the most annoying lady ever
Post Secret One of my favorites- only posts on Sundays. It's my favorite Sunday ritual to read the new Post Secrets
Then there are blogs from my friends and family. I love these blogs- it's a way to be involved in other's lives that may live far away. I had a cousin that I was close to growing up- she had a blog long before me and I completely credit the blogosphere for bring us close again. I finally talked my sister into doing one and I have loved having her out there.
And then there is my blog. I don't list my followers. I have 17, mostly from people I have no idea who they are. I wish I could boot them the way you can boot friends on facebook. I don't want advertisers. My blog is mine, and others are welcome to read it if they would like, but it's mine. And if I want to write a post showcasing my magnets on my fridge (no joke, I did that) or 42 pictures of Charlie looking at his foot, then I'm going to post them. I get a pure joy blogging, it's an amazing outlet. And it's a historical account of the last few years of my life. I started right before I got engaged, not knowing it was coming. What a great time to start a blog because my life has been a roller coaster ever since!

A Few More From the Weekend from Melinda's Camera
Fall Trip to see Grandma & Grandpa and the Hubbards
We took a, what is becoming a twice a year, trip up to Iowa to see family. Melinda has graciously opened her house again and again so that my parents can come down and see all their grandchildren and we can come up and Charlie can see his family and it's all in driving distance. Having Melinda live right off I 35 in Des Moines is handy as heck! We had a fun weekend filled with loud balloons, soccer and 'hi's'. The weather was fantastic and Lea even came down for a bit with Caroline and Jack. It was nice to see them and she gave me a ton of great stuff for Charlie.
Watching Grandma talk
Meeting the girls as they get off the bus
Charlie finally likes the slide- he squealed with delight this weekend sliding down which he didn't do in Mayberry when we were there. I'm glad he's coming around
Dad brought down these crazy balloons- the adults were just as into them as the kids. You can find them here
They would try to catch them as they fell, that was probably more fun than anything.
The girls
We celebrated Elise's birthday. We are early, but it was fun. This is an apple cake Melinda made which was to die for
I love that face
Holy Crap- Elise got a Justin Bieber CD from Grandma. This not-so-little-girl is growing up so fast! She's already interested in boys!!! Ugh, next stop....high school
Grandpa helping Charlie with his car
On the way to Lauren's soccer game- Grandma bought him a jean jacket and it's the cutest thing ever. He's like a chubby James Dean
Stylin'
Watching the soccer game
Grandpa is Lauren's #1 cheerleader.
Lauren 'dominating'. You should see her out there with all those boys, she is awesome
We went over to the girl's school so they could show us their skills on the monkey bars
Charlie- thrilled as always on the swing
Had much more fun just toddling the grounds
We forgot to take a picture until the morning everyone was leaving- hence the girl's PJs. Still pretty cute though

Having a conversation with his cousin Elise
We heard a lot of 'hi's' this weekend because if you call it, he'll respond. It's super cute, but oh my goodness, by the end of the weekend...no more! Look how he watches his cousin- so super cute
Reminds me of a Yip Yip
Here's another one just because they were so great

Kitchen Curtain Update
My life is so boring, that new curtains have been a major feature on this blog. Do you remember this fabric? Well, it's finally back in stock and has been ordered! I wanted to get away from the blue and red in the kitchen. Charlie's room is blue and red, our bedroom is blue and brown, the bathroom is blue and white....enough blue!!! So I'm going red and green. And here is an excellent model of the colors together (my kitchen will never be this chic, but a girl can dream)

I hate those tile thingys over ovens- another thing I I just don't understand, There would be a lot of things I would change in this kitchen ( what is that thing on the vent?) but overall I dig this kitchen
